SOPA and PIPA

If you noticed Google, Wikipedia or other helpful sites acting strangely today (1/18/12)....

From Randy Hanson at NLU:

Hi Everyone,

There are 2 bills before Congress right now, Stop Online Piracy Act or SOPA and the Protect IP Act or PIPA that can have huge implications on the internet. On the surface they may seem like reasonable measures to protect intellectual property and copyright, but as many in the industry are protesting these acts aren't all they appear to be.

Today, there has been a lot of discussion on Twitter about SOPA and PIPA, including a short video of Clay Shirky on TED discussing why these are bad policies:
http://www.ted.com/talks/defend_our_freedom_to_share_or_why_sopa_is_a_bad_idea.html

I'm not arguing one way or the other, just keeping everyone informed of what's happening in the world of ed tech so you can make your own decisions.
Randy
